Interconnectiveness
Gallerist & blogger extraordinaire Edward Winkleman has an interesting & epic post on the next big thing in art.
In his conclusion he says:
In his conclusion he says:
So it seems to me that what some of us are missing, as we're anxiously anticipating the next big thing, is that it's right here, right now, under our noses and that we, in fact, are actually all participating in it. The systematic connecting of the dots across all of history, the uploading and tagging of the videos, the databases we're voluntarily building in social network sites, the knowledge base we're creating and constantly refining in Wikipedia, all of this is a necessary part of building the foundation for the coming new way of seeing and processing the world around us. We're collectively creating a massive content management system, but it is simply a tool, not the product. This multi-dimensional interconnectivity is merely the new "Perspectiva!"

In the last 3 days alone, I became friends with Edward Winkleman on facebook, then because of that went to his gallery, where I met him in person, he personally explained to me some details about "The New Silk Road" video and photography exhibit there; we chatted about how dynamic facebook was becoming in the art world, I posted a comment about his show on facebook the next day along with a blog entry on another show, that elicited two comments (one from a collector acquaintance who expressed interest in getting together, another from an artist I've never met, but with whom I have exchanged reactions to a current museum exhibition), and in my studio was able to solve -- or begin to hopefully solve -- a problem about composing my next painting because of a work-in-progress yet another artist posted on facebook. And on it goes. I agree with Ed. The exchanging and culling and sorting, done in conjunction with reflection and an open-mind, curiosity and generosity is the next big thing.
